Can you believe it's the end of January 2019 and we are on to February 2019! We hope you have had a solid start to your new year, and to all our Mums with school-age kids, kudos on getting them back to school in one piece! I will have that to look forward to in a few more years.
Back in January, I sent out an email asking you, yes you what you would like to hear more of in 2019. Many, many, many of you responded with the same few things:
It was incredible reading each and every one of your responses and here I am, wanting to share with you how I incorporate self-care in my own life.
Self-care Tip 1: Find the one thing you love for yourself and do it daily
If anyone knows me, they will know what a coffee addict I am. I simply love my coffee so much that it is the first act of self-care I do daily. My kids know this, my husband knows this, and I fiercely protect my morning coffee "me time". This does not mean a quick, burnt instant coffee, gurgled down before rushing out the door.
No Mdm, I spoilt myself last Christmas and bought a Mini Barista Coffee Machine. I grind my own coffee beans, tamper my own coffee, froth my own milk and make myself a frigging perfect Cafe Latte every.single.morning. I then sit down, and sip it slowly until the mug turns cold in my hands. It's my morning ritual. And what does the kids do? Watch Peppa Pig of course. :Pp>
Self-care Tip 2: Eat healthy and drink 8 glasses of water daily
I am admittedly one of those people that do not drink enough water, however ever since moving to Brisbane, and wanting to start taking care of myself more this year, I started drinking more and more water and my own personal results are amazing!
The difference I felt in drinking so much more water (I carry a 750ml water bottle with me and sometimes can drink two bottles a day!), eating my servings of vegetables and fruit helped me avoid late afternoon snacks and midnight McDonald's runs. I actually lost some weight, my skin condition improved and I felt so much more energy!
There are incredible health benefits in drinking water:
Water is your body's principal chemical component and makes up about 60 percent of your body weight. Your body depends on water to survive.
Every cell, tissue and organ in your body needs water to work properly. For example, water:• Gets rid of wastes through urination, perspiration and bowel movements • Keeps your temperature normal • Lubricates and cushions joints • Protects sensitive tissues
Lack of water can lead to dehydration — a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you tired.
Try to have more servings of fruits and vegetables daily and see the difference for yourself.
Self-care Tip 3: Buy yourself flowers
I actually love love love my botanicals and Australian natives and I love just buying myself a nice bunch of flowers every now and then. Seeing fresh greenery or flowers daily really helps my soul. Don't wait for "him" to buy you flowers. Go woman, and buy yourself a bunch of flowers today.
Self-care Tip 4: Do a daily basic skin care routine
Many of us Mums are incredibly time poor. We want to practise self-care but we genuinely lack the time to do any Korean 10-step skincare routine (yes this does exist).
Hence, my quick go to is to at least wash my face. And even that, I am lazy to do and that’s why I introduced our Cleansing Micellar Water. It is the lighter way to remove make-up and cleanse the skin. Micellar water works by combining the active oil emulsifying power of plant based surfactants with long-term moisture boosting actives and extracts to leave the skin feeling soft and clean.
I literally squirt my Micellar Water onto a cotton pad, wipe my face and it cleans and removes all my make-up in one go. Yay for washing my face without even needing to turn on my faucet! Once I have done this, I love adding on our Anti-Aging Serum and Organic Face and Eye Cream (every night) which makes my skin glowing and feeling amazing the next day!
We recently had an actress from LA leave a great review on our Organic Face and Eye Cream. Check it out here.
The other thing I love doing is giving myself a rub down in one of our body oils. It is my quick fix to self-care and having soft moisturised skin. I especially love our Calm Infused Body Oil. It is a light coconut oil infused with Rose, Lavender, Lemon Balm (a known herb for decreasing stress and anxiety) and Chamomile. Lavender and Vetiver essential oil are also added into the mix which are used in aromatherapy for de-stressing and relaxation. The smell alone instantly relaxes me.
Check out our Micellar water, Calm Infused Body Oil and Organic Face and Eye Cream and use the code RELAX10 for 10% off if you purchase any of these products.• Step 1 Cleanse with a oil-based cleanser or Micellar water • Step 2 Apply a ten-cent amount of anti-aging facial serum •Step 3 Apply Organic Face and Eye cream all over face and neck
Self-care Tip 5: Have a great salad
One of my favourite self-care tips is to make a simple salad and eat it by the river. Try making a salad for yourself, take the kids out, let them run about, kick back and enjoy a salad.
Try this quick Strawberry, Avocado Spinach salad with Apple Cider Dressing• 6 cups baby spinach • Strawberries, hulled and sliced • Avocado, pitted and diced • Any cheese (I love Danish Feta or Blue Cheese) • Almonds • Half a small red onion • Extra virgin olive oil • 3 tablespoons Apple cider vinegar • 2 tablespoons Honey Mix all ingredients and enjoy!
